Editors, finally :D

I can’t believe it, I liked this band (esp for their song, Munich) for ages and I barely know their look..haha. I once posted that fact on Path and this friend of mine was just like, “youtube dong” I know, in this internet era, everything is just one click away. But I just kinda like to enjoyed their songs without really knowing how they look like (same like The Temper Trap case before I finally googled them). Today, giving up to my curiosity, I finally looked up for Editors’ music video a few minutes ago through youtube and I kinda…pleased. I mean, once again I got fooled by how the band sound and how they look. At first I thought they were from Germany (cause of the song title.. pffft) or somewhere else in Europe… guess I’m wrong because it’s England where they come from, okay it’s quite close since it still in Europe lol. And the singer! I can’t believe it. In my mind, I imagine the singer would look like Kaiser Chiefs’ singer or even like the guy from Kings of Leon. But then again I’m surprised cause actually he looks like this:

I mean, how can that icy, deep voice come from this skinny guy? :D

Oh, and his name is Tom, Tom Smith. Cool.. but why are there so many frontmen with the first name Tom? Tom Delonge, Tom Powers, Thom Yorke, and now Tom Smith? Haha. The different is, Tom Smith has a unique and deep voice (which is sexy to me). His vocal range is baritone, the kinda voice you can expect to hear from a mature man with beard and suit. Or, from the jazz singer like Louis Armstrong (what a wonderful world). His vocal style has been compared to that of post-punk singers such as Ian Curtis of Joy DivisionPaul Banks of InterpolRobert Smith of The Cure and Michael Stipe of R.E.M.. But Tom is Tom. He can sing very well in the live shows and not many singers can do that I think ;p

The former Editors line up consisted of Tom Smith, Chris Urbanowicz, Russel Leetch and Edward Lay. Unfortunately, Chris left the group in April 2012 and his position replaced by two new members: Justin Lockey and Elliot Williams.
According to Daily Mail UK, Editors are the second biggest British band of the decade behind the Arctic Monkeys: Their debut album, The Back Room, sold more than 500,000 copies. They were also nominated for Best British Group in the 2008 Brit Award.
Editors discography:
  • The Back Room (2005)
  • An End has a Start (2007)
  • In This Light and On This Evening (2009)
“We put our hearts and souls into a song and to have it used as a tool to make money for something else is sickening.”
- Editors about sticking their tracks on TV advert.

Super recommended album of the year!

The Temper Trap self titled.
Lagu-lagunya semua enaaaaak.
Memang singlenya bikin kecele sih, karena ironisnya menurut gue Need Your Love agak lemah kalau dijadikan single pertama.
Man oh man, I love this band so much.
What a great comeback guys!

Track by track The Temper Trap:

Need Your Love
London's Burning
Trembling Hands
The Sea Is Calling
Miracle
This Isn't Happiness
Where Do We Go From Here

Jaded

Hey j-j-jaded, you got your mama's style
But you're yesterday's child to me
So jaded
You think that's where it's at
But is that where it's supposed to be
You're gettin' it all over me and serrated

My, my baby blue
Yeah I been thinkin' about you
My, my baby blue
Yeah you're so jaded
And I'm the one that jaded you

Hey j-j-jaded
In all it's misery
It will always be what I love and hated
And maybe take a ride to the other side
We're thinkin' of
We'll slip into the velvet glove
And be jaded

My, my baby blue
Yeah I'm thinkin' about you
My, my baby blue
Yeah, I'm so jaded
And baby I'm afraid of you

Your thinking's so complicated
I've had it all up to here
But it's so overrated
Love and hated
Wouldn't trade it
Love me jaded

Hey j-j-jaded
There ain't no baby please
When I'm shootin' the breeze with her
When everything you see is a blur
And ectasy's what you prefer

My, my baby blue
Yeah I'm talkin' about you
My, my baby blue
Yeah I've been thinkin' about you
My, my baby blue
Yeah you're so jaded
Baby
Jaded
Baby
You're so jaded
'Cause I'm the one that jaded you

You gotta be kidding me if you don't know this song. I absolutely love "Jaded" since the first time I saw the video on MTV, long long time ago...
And you know what? There's Mila Kunis in it! She's the girl who played the..uh.. jaded girl. She's way younger yet really pretty. It's like Dian Sastro in "Jadikan Aku Pacarmu" all over again haha. (if you know what I mean). The video itself tells a story of a girl who has lost the ability to feel due to losing touch with reality.

Summer tunes

Even though Indonesia only have two seasons, I still get the excitement feeling when people at the North 'celebrating' summer time. Summer means holiday, beach, cute bathing suit, laying all day long without even feeling guilty, ice cream, and also...water melons! In the summer also, everything would look so fun and colorful.
So, have you got your bathing suit and popsicle? Okay, there's only one thing left for you to enjoy summer time: Good music!
Well, I know music will always accompany you whether it's summer or winter. But there's always something about blasting your ipod/any music player if you don't have ipod like me while enjoying your 'me time' by the beach.
Here are my choice of summer music (taken from my tumblr):

1. Superfast Jellyfish by Gorillaz
This is the cutest song. I don’t know what makes it cute, since the lyrics probably contain deeper meaning than it was on the surface. Maybe it’s the jellyfish.. they dancing and bumping around in the music video even though they know they’ll be eaten in the next 3 microwave minutes… wait, are they the meal or just the toy came inside the breakfast box? Idk, I told you before, I’m bad at making song/video interpretation ;p

2. Piknik 72 by Naif
This song has a strong 70s/retro/summer/vespa vibe! Always sing along when I hear this song and lately, my bro was blasting it in the car while we were driving home from my dad’s work place. We ended up sing this song so loud, assuming that the car was a karaoke booth.

3. London’s Burning by The Temper Trap
Finally I made it to listen all the songs from Temper Trap’s self titled album. All I can say about the new album is: It’s different. I thought there will be more songs like Rabbit Hole, but turns out, it’s not like that. London’s Burning for example, this song has a somewhat familiar and catchy tune that makes me love the song at the first hearing.

4. Wide Awake by Katy Perry
Personally, I think this song is better than Part of Me. A perfect closure for Teenage Dream album era.

5. One Eighty by Summer by Taking Back Sunday
An old one I got here, but still one of my all-time favorite songs.

6. He’s Not a Boy by The Like
The first The Like song I ever heard, came from the album Release Me. The song is beautiful, sugary, rollicking, and stylish at the same time! Oh, and the mod theme really suit them well.

7. Supercollider by Radiohead
I will always put Radiohead’s song in my playlist. Always. This song is one of the two tracks that were released as Radiohead’s 2011 single on the Record Store Day on 16 April 2011. Supercollider was recorded during the making of The King of Limbs album and finished off after the album came out. I don’t know why this song didn’t included in The King of Limbs. Cause it’s too different with the rest of the songs in the album? Ironically, I like this song better than those in TKOL album (beside Lotus Flower of course).

8. Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen
The song is so popular nowadays (138 million views on youtube), and there are so many people play around with the chorus lines: “Hey I just met you. And this is crazy. So here’s my number. So call me maybe?” They change the lyrics as they wish to be..from a vulgar one to the childish one. However, the song is catchy and really summery (at least the video is).

For all of you who unfortunately can't afford to go out of town for a summer vacation, don't worry, make your own playlist and enjoy it during the summer time. Or, if you still want to do something different so you can feel the oh-so-summer vibe, you can do what rookiemag suggest to do here. Click, click.
That's all from me. Enjoy your summer peeps! <-- this is clearly not for you who lives in Australia

All The Rage

Why do we need this
Who was it that said
That great things come to great men
Well that fucker lied to us
There's nothing here but a wasteland,

But I can still see the graves of the dead
but it's useless
most of us would rather sit
than see this wound
that we have created
Let's not last the night
Let's not last the night

I'm sick and I'm tired of always being the good guy
I'm sick and I'm tired of always being the good guy

Senseless and I'm not sure why
I'm not going to pretend that I know all the answers
Of all of these questions
It's got to be good for something

Like sitting in the back seat (it's all the rage)
and boring me with your body (it's all the rage)
and how many times can I say I'm sorry (it's all the rage)
and really mean it (and really mean it)
and really mean it (and really mean it)
Like sitting in the back seat (it's all the rage)
and boring me with your body (it's all the rage)
and how many times can I say I'm sorry (it's all the rage)
and really mean it (and really mean it)
and really mean it (and really mean it)
and really mean it

This song is one of my favorite songs from the band called Funeral for a Friend. Quite a creepy name for a band huh? Haha.
As the first track of FFaF sophomore album, Hours, All the Rage was not even become the single of the album. But I really, really love this song. I usually blast this song in the car with the high volume and sing/scream along loudly everytime I feel like shit. And that... I can say, happens a lot ;p

Go to Sleep

Something for the rag and bone man
Over my dead body
Something big is gonna happen
Over my dead body
Someone's son or someone's daughter
Over my dead body
This is how I end up sucked in
Over my dead body
I'm gonna go to sleep
And let this wash all over me
We don't really want a monster taking over
Tip toeing, tying down
We don't want the loonies taking over
Tip toeing, tying down our arms
May pretty horses
Come to you as you sleep
I'm gonna go to sleep
And let this wash over me

It's kinda disappointing how Radiohead uses a lot of electronic synthesizer thingy for their songs these days (try to listen In Rainbows and King of Limbs and compare them to Pablo Honey or The Bends and you'll get what I mean). But, I still love them anyway ;p
My all time favorite of all of their songs is....ermm not Go to Sleep (gotcha!), but Thinking About You. The song that came from Pablo Honey, their first record back in 1993.
